Mentoring Program

Alpha Phi Alpha Annual Oratorical Contest

(Elementary, Middle School, & High School): Mu Xi Lambda Chapter hosted our 33rd Annual Oratorical Contest. This educational event is an opportunity to highlight our talented youth throughout the Inland Empire (grades 1 through 12). Our scholars demonstrated their advocacy and shared their voices around current topics impacting our communities. This event would also showcase their skills in public speaking, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Marion Black Legacy Scholarship:

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Mu Xi Lambda Chapter offers the Marion Black: Legacy Scholarship to a black male student graduating high schoolThe student should be intending to attend a Historically Black College in the Fall. We are looking to support a student in financial need. This awarded support will be provided for four consecutive years.

Dr. Norman Towels Leadership Scholarship:

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Mu Xi Lambda Chapter is pleased to offer the Dr. Norman Towels Leadership Scholarship to a Black male student graduating high school who is looking to enroll at a four year Historically Black College & University (HBCU). We are looking to support a student in financial need.

Annual High School STEM Conference:

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, and our affiliated 501(c)3 non-profit entities collaborate to produce the annual CAL POLY POMONA “STEM Day and Career Pathways Conference”. This experience exposes nearly 300 Young Scholars, ages 14 to 18 to STEM-based majors and careers. Students engage in hands-on workshops and seminars related to computer programming, cyber defense, aerospace science, and engineering. Students receive information and advice on the college admissions process, financial aid, and the process of selecting classes, majors, and course curriculum. Guest speakers fill the day which includes a panel discussion with current college members of Alpha Phi Alpha, who also sat with student participants during lunch sharing the testimony of their experiences.

Annual Children’s with Sickle Cell Christmas Event:

Mu Xi Lambda continues doing their part to support the community, by partnering with the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California and community leaders, to host our Alpha Phi Alpha Christmas Party for Children living with Sickle Cell Anemia and their families in the Inland Empire. Food, family fun, and crafts are provided for an afternoon of fun for all.

HBCU High-School Tour Program:

Mu Xi Lambda provides scholarships to support high school seniors to participate in an HBCU college tour. Students are provided the opportunity to fly across the united states and then visit over 10 black colleges & universities. On their campus tour, students learn about the university/college, talk with school officials & recruiters, and are provided information about the various disciplines of study.

Project Alpha:

This collaborative project is designed to provide education, motivation, and skill-building on issues of responsibility, relationships, teen pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases for young males ages 12-15 years. Designed to provide young men with current and accurate information about teen pregnancy prevention, Project Alpha consists of a series of workshops and informational sessions conducted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity brothers. The three goals of Project Alpha programs are:

  • Sharing Knowledge by combating ignorance and fear with factual information.
  • Changing Attitudes by providing motivation toward positive changes in sexual behavior.
  • Providing Skills by creating a sense of empowerment and self-esteem.
March of Dimes- March for Babies:

Mu Xi Lambda participates in this annual event to further support our community. March of Dimes leads the fight for the health of all moms and babies. We support research, lead programs and provide education and advocacy so that every mom and baby can have the best possible start. Building on a successful 80-year legacy of impact and innovation, we empower every mom and every family.
